On January 30, 1964, Vee-Jay Records released a single of The Beatles with the VJ-581 catalog number which featured the A sides from Vee-Jay’s first two Beatles singles, Please, Please Me and From Me To You. For the purpose of attracting the fans’ additional attention towards this new issue, first and foremost for increasing its sales, Vee-Jay prepared an original promotional picture sleeve with white background which featured the black and white version of the photo used by the company on the cover of “Introducing…The Beatles”, a bold red “The Beatles” banner at the top, the Vee-Jay brackets logo and the “Please, Please Me and From Me To You” title in black. The majority of these picture sleeves are in a pretty bad shape, but this picture sleeve is a rare exception and can be attributed to the final upgrade category. In spite of a large number of label variations, this picture sleeve most often comes with the oval and bracket color band variation. The currently listed commercial release copy contains the very rare white labels with a black VJ logo without the brackets and “Vee Jay Records” in small print below it. Perhaps, this doesn’t relate to the description, but we think that the combination of the white picture sleeve and the white labels is the most aesthetically pleasing one. When the labels provided by Vee-Jay Records ran out, the pressing plant was the one to manufacture the additional ones, in this case these white labels were made by the Southern Plastics plant in Nashville, Tennessee. The full matrix numbers of this issue are as follows: Side 1 – 63-2967 AudioMatrix RA; Side 2 – 63-3218 AudioMatrix RA. This release contains the same stampers previously used by the plant on the A sides of the first two Beatles singles. The trail-off vinyl of both sides contains the machine stamped “AudioMatrix” logo as well as the ”RA” initials of the undeservedly forgotten mastering engineer Roger Anfinsen who worked at Universal Recording Corporation in Chicago. The record comes with the original Vee-Jay Records “Singles of Significance” red and black paper inner sleeve.

It's very hard to find a picture sleeve of this issue in such a clean Near Mint condition. It doesn’t have any ring wear, splits, writing, soiling or residue. Just like the picture sleeve, the original Vee-Jay Records inner sleeve is also very clean and in Near Mint condition. We grade the vinyl as Very Good Plus as it has some very light surface marks and hairlines as well as scuffs from the original sleeve. The white labels are in beautiful Near Mint Minus condition barely having any scuffs. The vinyl plays great having a warm and soft sounds and is graded as Excellent.
