Notes : Scarce 1st Mono Pressing with '606-1' matrix which contains a different mix of 'Tomorrow Never Knows' to the standard release, apparently this mix only made it to the first few hundred LPs that were pressed, before George Martin intervened and replaced with a different mix of the song for all further pressings. This LP also has the rarer side-2 label featuring 'Dr. Robert' text [rather than 'Doctor Robert'] and the harder-to find Ernest J. Day sleeve. A nice find!
Black & yellow Parlophone labels with 'The Gramophone Co.' text around the rims and 'Sold In UK...' text across label centres, 'K T' tax code embossed on the side-1 label, front laminated Ernest J. Day flipback sleeve with small black 'Mono' text in top right corner, plain white inner sleeve with 'Patents Applied for' and 'Made in Great Britain' text.
Condition : the vinyl is EX in appearance but plays NM-. It sounds really great and a has nice warmth of sound. There are a handful of light hairline marks, plus one heavier visible 1-inch mark on side-1 which travels across two songs [see photo #2, top right corner]. We are playing through this mark now and it gives off a few ticks during the beginning of 'Here, There and Everywhere' and a couple more in the middle of 'Yellow Submarine', so it looks a lot worse than it plays. The rest of the album suffers very little from any other interferance, with a couple of little ticks in some places and only very minor evidence of static in others, with practical silence between songs.
The labels are clean with light spindle wear to the centres. The plain white inner sleeve shows some wear and marking from use.
The outer sleeve is clean and glossy with some minor corner rubbing and a handful of small laminate edge lines, there are only very minor signs of any wear to the opening edge, and the text on the spine is completely unworn. There are a couple of thumbnail lines to the front laminate and one of these has made the laminate lift slightly, because of where this is placed [in George's hair on the bottom right] it is only really noticeable when held to the light. The rear of the sleeve shows only minor signs of wear.
A very nice example of this classic Beatles album, and though one side does have a visual flaw (as described above) it really is a fantastic sounding disc!
