THE BEATLES
REVOLVER
Rare Earlier EJ Day & Co Flip-Back Sleeve
Original and Correct 'Patents Applied For'' Inner Sleeve
Yellow & Black Parlophone Label
1966. Mono.
This is an original Yellow & Black Parlophone Label copy of Remix-9, which was pressed within hours after the Remix 11 debacle at EMI. This is the favoured 'mono' and has the early 1966 'KT' Purchase Tax Stamp surrounding the spindle.
It also has the more desireable and rare EJ Day & Co cover, which is in really nice, original and fully intact condition, without marks or damage. Contractually, by 1966 EJ Day & Co were coming to the end of manufacture for The Beatles album covers, with Garrod & Lofthouse supplying the majority, so this is one of the last of the sleeves, not just for Revolver, but for The Beatles. It has the noticeable smaller 'Mono' on the top, right of the album cover and a 'skinny' spine and retains the Dr. Robert credit error on the sleeve, whereas it has been corrected to Doctor Robert on the label. An EJ Day & Co outer sleeve is by far the most sought after and rare, especially in such great, original and unmarked condition!
This LP also has, ''Sold in the UK subject to resale price conditions, see price list'' & ''The Gramophone Co Ltd'' around the inner rim, marking it out as an early first press, after the aborted press.
The Matrices are: Side One XEX 605-2 and Side Two XEX 606-2. With Side One Mother being '4' and Stamper being 'RDR' or '202' and Side Two Mother being '2' and Stamper 'RRL' or '228'.
The vinyl, is the fantastic 60's heavy gauge and both sides are in really nice ndition, with just odd hairlines. It still has a superb dark lustre to the super heavy-weight Parlophone vinyl and actually minimal spindle wear, with just feint rubs, unlike the usual 'white' of the paper label, below the black, showing through from excessive playing. Not with this!
Grading is really subjective, but with such a nice, unpretentious and wholly original package, with the more rare and highly cpllectable EJ Day & Co outer sleeve and right down to the correct inner sleeve, with 'Patents Applied For', this is, I would suggest, very good plus to excellent minus, with the vinyl, obviously, having been played, with just surface traces, but otherwise a fine, complete album. Please check out The Record Collector or Goldmine guides, they will explain the terms and the gradings, but I feel excellent is appropriate for a record dating back to 1966, being 46 years old and in such nice condition!
Postage is quoted @ £4.50, in the Ebay form, but only for up to £46.00, anything above and the record must be sent Special Delivery, via Royal Mail, due to value, which, for this weight, is £6.55, to include the mailer.
