Description
An original 1st issue of Revolver on UK Parlophone from the tie of release. Matrix 2/2. Ok, so lets clear up any confusion with 1st press / 1st issue - FIRST! A very early 1st pressing of Revolver exists with a 2/1 matrix. This is example is NOT the very earliest 1st press. It would have come immediately after the 2/1 iteration - and have been available for purchase around the release date. So, how do we know that this copy is so early - how can we prove it? Well, you need to thoroughly examine the label design. TWO things stand out... Firstly the layout of the label is clearly EARLY. Look at how cramped the track-listing and credits are and how SMALL the band title is. Then note the 'Dr. Robert' abbreviated track on side 2. This is a clear indicator of an early copy. John Lennon stepped in early doors at the release date and OBJECTED to the abbreviated track listing. He thought it was misleading given the content of the song. ALL later copies would therein exhibit 'DOCTOR ROBERT'. These early copies are pressed heavy and sound fab. The vinyl comes housed in an original Mono G&L cover with flipbacks. We also have the original generic white inner from the time too 'patents applied for'. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) A great looking original copy which has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I could make out a few light marks per side - seemingly nothing heavy or troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERYGOOD+ level of playback with just a couple of deviations FOR SIDE 1. SIDE 2 plays cleaner with a grading of NEAR EXCELLENT. Lovely quiet intros and inbetweens and excellent clarity throughout. Side 2 is the clear winner for preservation - just a couple of crackles in a couple of spots - impressive. Side 1 has a number of the fussiest tracks. I picked up a bit of light static in 'Love To You' & 'Everywhere'. Nothing invasive they just won't play quite as clean as the rest of the LP. Overall a very solid rendition. Cover (Ex-) Very nicely preserved and doesn't seem to have been affected by the ageing process like so any other examples. The rear is looking clean with no signs of problems. Very little edge wear and a 100% intact spine. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) A little ageing. An edge split has been taped up.
