If The Beatles had released only one album in their entire career and it had been 'Revolver', their place in rock music history would have been firmly established. It is that good. That it makes up only one among eleven other stellar albums that they would release in a short span of 7 years is nothing short of astonishing.
Initially released in the UK in August 1966 on EMI's Parlophone labels (PCS 7009), 'Revolver' was a clear departure in terms of the group's "sound". There is a tightness...a shimmering quality which all the songs seem to be treated with (by George Martin) at the production level. We heard brief moments of this on 'Rubber Soul' on songs like 'Nowhere Man', 'If I Needed Someone' etc. On 'Revolver' though, it seems to encompass ALL the songs...particularly on 'Eleanor Rigby', 'I'm Only Sleeping', and 'She Said She Said'.
Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab released an audiophile (half-speed mastered) version of 'Revolver' (MFSL 1-107) in 1986. Personally, I think it is the best sounding version of this masterpiece. Having heard dozens of pressings over the years, the MFSL version always seems to come out on top. There is more clarity and separation...the bass is more defined....overall, the sound is cleaner and more open. If you know this album well and you've never heard this pressing, you owe it to yourself to have a listen.
Cover: Very Good ++......due to its black and white design and the particular card stock used for its construction, this jacket is slightly more prone to "wear and tear". That said, there is certainly nothing too serious to mention here. A couple of the corners have some wear...as does the bottom edge and spine. All in all, a very good example. White cardboard inner-protective sleeve will be included as well as the MFSL audiophile inner-sleeve.
Record: Near Mint....you'll have to strain really hard to see any blemishes ....a near-perfect record which reproduces STUNNING audio.
