Up for auction is a truly special item--a first press UK Stereo Rubber Soul in a condition that is rarely seen. The jacket is EXCELLENT but the record itself is a *stunning* M-. A detailed description follows:
THE BEATLES Rubber Soul PCS 3075 YEX 178-2, 179-2
The jacket for this record is quite nice, but it's the disc that makes it special. The jacket I'd rate EXCELLENT according to Record Collector. It still retains its sheen, remains stiff, no tears of any kind. There is minor corner wear and almost indistinguishable edgewear. There are a couple faint creases on the front that are nearly invisible. The back is also fantastic, with no creases or heavy marks whatsoever. Flipback is in great condition with no tears at all. There is only very faint browning of the back cover, which usually bears the brunt of the dirt on these albums.
Inner sleeve is also excellent, remains stiff, with only a little tape applied.
Now, for the good part, and for what makes this item special: the disc itself. I say with confidence that this isn't just the finest example of a UK Rubber Soul I've ever seen, but the finest example of any yellow-and-black Beatles record I've ever seen. There are no scratches. No hairlines. No dents. No scuffs. This record is, without exaggeration, next to perfect. I rate it M- with confidence. I assure you that if you're looking for a 1st press stereo Rubber Soul, this will be your final upgrade. It just doesn't get any better than this. And in my experience, the stereo Rubber Soul is most certainly tougher to find than the mono--this was right at the point before stereo became the standard and overtook mono in terms of circulation. I do not have my turntable set up and have only played it once, a long time ago, in order to keep it perfect, but I do not recall any faults and it sounded fantastic. Very quiet.
