Description
An original 4th Proof of Pepper on the UK Parlophone label. Matrix 1/1. The vinyl comes housed in an original "4th Proof" sleeve with the exposed flipbacks, mono and 'patents applied for' notation. These 4th Proof covers are effectively the final proof before going into full production. It seems that Parlophone, rather than retain them, released them to the public with the full production copies. Look at the flipbacks you'll spot the inverted 'fourth proof' text and the serial number "AR 13217". We also have the original 'Fool flame' inner sleeve and the dark-green cut-outs. So, it's 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In very nice condition and has only seen a moderate level of use. Under close inspection there a few marks - nothing heavy or likely to cause serious problem. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a predominantly NEAR EXCELLENT level of playback - with a couple of slight deviations. The only vaguely noticeable issues on side 2 are a couple of very brief clicks at the start of WIYWOY and then, perhaps, just a bit of light static creeping into the audio toward the end of 'A Day In The Life'. Side 1 plays mostly 'near ex' too, but 'She's Leaving Home' & 'Mr Kite' are exhibiting some light static as is often the case. Nothing that impairs the listening experience too much - it's just not as clean as the rest of the LP in these areas. Overall a very impressive rendition and one that will more than suffice for most folk.
Cover (Vg+) In great shape and has been cared for down the years. Nice shiny front with a few thumb nail creases over toward the opening. The rear looks nice too with just a couple of creases. The interior is pretty much immaculate. There's a bit of edge wear apparent and the text on the spine is still mostly legible - but there are a couple of marks which impair visibility. Overall the cover still retains good rigidity and remains a lovely example of this hard to find collectable.
Inner (Ex-) Just one or two light age markings. No splits though.
Cut-Outs (Ex+) No issues. Faultless.
