Description
Sgt Pepper a very 1st pressing from 1967 on UK Parlophone. Matrix -1/-1. Stampers 2M/4MM. The LP comes housed in an original WIDE SPINE Garrod & Lofthouse Mono cover. These WIDE SPINE covers represent the very first version of the LP. Also included is the original flame inner sleeve and the dark-green cut-outs. So, 100% original and 100% complete. And, on this 50th anniversary year, still looking in surprisingly good condition.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) Has clearly been looked after and has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks on either side - but nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of slight deviations. Intros and inbetweens are very quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity and minimal interference. We only detected some light static in She's Leaving Home and When I'm 64 which is common on these early copies. But, in reality, even this is relatively minor and in no way detracts from what is a very high standard of playback. With the 50th anniversary upon us this copy represents the DEFINITIVE original version of this LP. You'll struggle to find a better rendition of this classic with its hallmark lush audio reproduced perfectly.
Cover (Ex) Looks in fantastic condition and it is very pleasing to see that WIDE SPINE looking so well preserved. A nice and shiny front and rear. The interior is in pretty much prefect condition. And the definition of those interior photos is excellent - much better in fact than copies from just six months later. Pin-sharp perfect definition. Overall the cover still retains superb rigidity. That all important spine is still in very decent condition indeed. Just some light wear at the extremes. Difficult to better I'd imagine...
Cut-Outs (Ex+) No visible imperfections. Pretty much perfect.
Inner (Vg+) A two inch bottom seam split. But little ageing and no markings. The Lp will come housed in an Exstatic inner sleeve.
