Description

An original 1st STEREO issue on the UK Apple label. Matrix 1/1/1/1. "XP" Tax code on Side 2. This might infer an export copy? - But I am not 100% sure on this [it is what it is!]. Please note you can find really early copies without 'EMI' exhibiting - but the copy here does exhibit the EMI text and would have been available for purchase during the 1st issue period. The real clincher for a genuine 1st issue is that statement you can see across the top of each label ' Sold In The UK subject to...'. Worth insisting on the 1st issues as, apart from being genuine 1st release copies, they were pressed very solid. The vinyl comes housed in an original top-loading cover [1st issue]. Note the cover is numbered "0189399" - that's seven digits. If your copy doesn't have the seven digits I'm afraid it isn't 1st issue. We also have two REPLICA black inner sleeves [die-cut with poly inners]. There are NO original photos. We do have the Poster/lyric sheet - it is, however, a later USA print [i.e. not original].
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+/Ex-/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection expect just a few light marks per side - fairly innocuous sort of stuff by and large. There is, however, a semi-feelable mark during the 2nd half of SAVOY..[details below]. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAR EXCELLENT level of playback with deviation in the odd spot as detailed below. Given that these are true 1st issues I've gotta say they really are well preserved - and it shows in the audio. I'm lovin' it! A lovely bold and relatively clean rendition - impressive for '68. Intros and inbetweens are nice and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. By and large a super little player - but not exclusively. In many tracks the audio is absolutely knock-out. I am, however, detecting a bit of background in a few of the lower key tracks e.g. Martha/Blackbrird. Nothing invasive - just don't expect it to play clean like the rest of the LP in these moments. A couple of ticks in Prudence and a few more in Blackbird. Midway through 'Savoy' the mark mentioned above causes a couple of ticks and a brief jump. Non-repeating and you just lose a couple of words - that's all [quite frankly not that big a deal]. I would say that the only track which is a mild disappointment was 'Blackbird' [but that's all really]. Given that there are 27 tracks on the WA I'd argue that's a pretty darn good strike rate! These '68 copies are kicking out some pretty impressive audio. Highly recommended.
Cover (Vg+) In lovely condition... these original white albums always have a whiff of magic about them!... There's precious little ageing apparent - much better than you typically find. The interior is very impressive - absolutely spot on. The spine looks fine, but it has been compressed [as is common]. There is tape covering the spine - and this has helped to preserve it. Edge wear is relatively minor for an early WA and overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. A very fine original example.
Lyric Poster (Ex) Fully intact no issues at all. Remember - it is unlikely to be a 1970 original though.
