With stunning vinyl, that looks to me to un-played & in Near Mint condition, as far as I can tell, this is an original copy of this increasingly rare copy of The White Album. The vinyl is superb, with maybe just a paper mark, but I can barely see any evidence and no spindle rubs!
The story behind the French import is simple, hence the term 'Strike Breaker' that was used at the UK EMI pressing plant, in Hayes Middlesex! Britain under PM Edward Heath in 1973 was in turmoil, with many industries ruled by unions and many companies on strike. British Leyland, British Steel and in 1973 EMI, Hayes! The Beatles White Album was still high in the British Album Charts and demand for it was huge, as it became the Beatle's and EMI's biggest selling LP of that year and so, when the pressing plant in Hayes, Middlesex went on strike, officials at EMI simply imported Pathé Marconi pressings from France to supply the huge demand for the album! The plant was and still is owned by EMI and so the Laquers, Masters & Stampers were the same and all EMI UK had to do was have an Import Sticker on the covere, see photos, stating ''Made in France'', pay the Custom's Import Duty and then distribute to record stores throughout the UK, by passing strike-torn Hayes! It worked!
So, this is one of those rare copies, in superb condition, with the original UK First Press matrices of
YEX 709-1, YEX 710-1, YEX 711-1 & YEX 712-1.
It is just as the UK press was, with the fully laminated Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve, with
'EMI Records (The Gramophone Co. Ltd) Hayes, Middlesex' on the inside left and 'The Beatles' embossed on the front. There are some signs of corner and top wear, but structurally all fine, without ink or biro; so no name or intitials!
It has the plain white inner sleeves, which are fine, too, with no damage.
This LP does not have the photos or poster and apparently many did not, as these would have, oddly, have had to be shipped over from the EMI printers to France, then packaged and then, obviously, shipped back to the UK!
A nice reminder of a bygone age and a fantastic LP.
Postage and sales in the UK only.... sorry France! Lol!
