This record has been cleaned on a Okki Nokki RCM and test played in full to be graded. 

Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band vinyl lp. Vinyl is Side 1 Very Good- / Side 2 Very Good+. The vinyl has a handful of surface marks on both sides. There is some light background crackle throughout which isn't too bad BUT there are some light pops and clicks most noticeably on Side 1. The pops and clicks are on a number of tracks on Side 1.

Garrod & Lofthouse Laminated Gatefold Sleeve is Very Good+. A few creases on edges. The spine is fully legible. An inverted Fourth Proof and AR D 13217 are printed on the top edge on the inside of the gatefold.

“Fourth Proof” sleeve.

This very very rare unique sleeve! The “Fourth Proof” sleeve represents the earliest possible pressing of the Sgt Pepper cover. The Fourth Proof was the final version of the various ‘prototypes’ that were explored by the Beatles when the cover was being designed. The cover (and text) was approved by the Beatles and an initial very small ‘test’ run was undertaken to make sure everything looked OK. This small test run is characterised by the inverted “Fourth Proof” text in the top right hand corner of the inner gatefold – just above George Harrison’s head. This is therefore the earliest possible ‘prototype’ (test pressing) cover. Same fold-back have can printed text “AR D1321? which was probably the reference number for the prototype text that was used.

The red and white 'fool' paper inner sleeve is Very Good as it has a Sellotape repair along the bottom spine and otherwise has a very small tear and creasing.

The dark green cutouts are Excellent. 

Summary:- Rare mono very early Fourth Proof sleeve which is in decent condition with a listenable but below average record.

Grading system used:-


Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.


Near Mint (NM) The record looks brand new with no scuffing or any deterioration in sound quality and only the smallest hint that its ever been played. The cover and any additional extras are clean, crisp and with no wear whatsoever.


Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.


Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.


Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.


Fair (F) The record is still just about playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or
defaced.


Poor (P) The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
