Description
This 1982 French import stereo album (with German pressings) from Harmonia Mundi (HM 1071) features a performance of The Beggar's Opera: Original Songs & Airs (L'Opera des Gueux: Chansons & Airs Originaux) by John Gay. They are performed by Patrizia Kwella (soprano) and Paul Elliott (tenor), accompanied by The Broadside Band, directed by Jeremy Barlow. An A4-sized (8.3" x 11.7") 20-page booklet included contains album notes in English, French and German by Jeremy Barlow, followed by the full lyrics presented line-by-line in all three languages. (See Photo 5) Also included is a small folder of other titles available from Harmonia Mundi (Photo 4), and a two-sided photocopy of the album's review in the May, 1982 edition of Gramophone magazine.
The outer album, inner sleeve and record are all in excellent condition. There is a very small (1") seam split at the bottom center of the inner sleeve. Also included (Photo 1) is a clear outer sleeve, similar to modern shrinkwrap but a slightly heavier weight, that serves to keep the record virtually air-tight inside the album. There is a small index sticker in the upper right corner of the back. (Photo 3)
This is one of many titles from an extensive collection of classical LPs and CDs that we will be listing here. All have been carefully stored for many years, played only on premium equipment, and show little to no wear.
NOTES:
- Album sleeves may have a small index sticker, usually in the upper right corner of the back, which was applied when the album was first purchased for this private collection.
