CROWE Banjo & Baritone Vocals JERRY DOUGLAS Dobro & Baritone Vocals BOBBY HICKS Fiddle TODD PHILLIPS Acoustic Bass For the previous volumes in this series, as well as most of my recorded efforts in general, multiple takes of a given song were recorded. There were a few exceptions when a single take was decided upon immediately as complete. My criteria for selecting a “final” track is largely based on a combination of precision musicianship and a “lack of error” where individual players are concerned. Forthisalbum I found myself making selections based mainlyon/ee/and a sense ofliveness. In other words, I tried to choose tracks that are most like what one would hear in a live performance. I haven’t attempted to eliminate small discrepancies if it meant interfering with the overall feel of the lake. Early Bluegrass groups such as Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs were often faced with similar decisions. As usual, we all had a great time performing these songs and I would like to thank all the musicians involved for their contributions to the vitality of Bluegrass music.
