THE BLUESTARS
SOCIAL END PRODUCT
(ALLIED INT JAR 540) (RELEASED 1966)
Tracks – Social End Product/I’m Over Here
"I’ve been labeled as an angry young man / Because I don’t fit into the master plan / Under society’s microscope / I look funny but it’s no joke
I’m a social end product so don’t blame me / I’m a social end product of society / It’s not my fault that I don’t belong / It’s the world around me that’s gone all wrong"
Hideously Rare 1966 New Zealand Garage Stomper from Auckland band “The Bluestars”. Certainly in the Top 5 of Snotty Garage Punk classics worldwide, this is a masterpiece of disaffected, angry social commentary with menacing vocals and intense fuzz guitar. One could imagine that young adults living in conservative New Zealand in the 60’s had to put up with a lot of ‘social’ injustice and backward thinking. This may well be the 'doyen' of Antipodes 60's garage punk!
This record has seen many plays (seen many parties??) and is graded accordingly. A side condition better than B…maybe ‘Social End Product’ was considered just too wild and hence the ‘gentler’ poppier B side got the plays!!!
A Side – ‘Social End Product’ – Heavy, thick vinyl. Visually graded VG/VG-…plays strong VG…lots of hairlines and markings, clicking towards conclusion of song…scratches aren’t deep, extremely loud mastering – the song jumps out of the speakers!
B Side – ‘I’m Over Here’ – Visually graded VG-… plays VG-/VG…lots of hairlines, markings and several massive deep scratches which can be felt (see photos), BUT because of the thick NZ vinyl, and loud mastering click moderately in places, but IS extremely listenable. No jumps or skips…I’ve seen numerous records over the years that look in better condition, but play worse than this!
Allied International labels in good condition…B side has the remnants of a sticker, but interestingly the record appears not to have any spindle marks for one played so heavily!
So not in the greatest condition, but this plays far better than any standard filler copy (try finding an original copy of this in any condition…)
One of the rarest New Zealand records period, and certainly one of the best!
