A couple of years back, over a couple of fun trips, I bought a huge vinyl collection from a friend who worked with me at Phantom Records (in the '90's) and who'd amassed a gigantic collection of wonderfully kept and thoroughly researched LP's, 7"s and relevant 12"s - from the classic punk era (1976-1981) was his specialty, but also records from the few years after that era, as some of those bands progressed into the mid-'80's while keeping their integrity intact (the likes of Public Image, Siouxsie, the Cure spring to mind). To give you an example of his fastidiousness, his collection included 60 different editions of the Pistols "Never Mind The Bollocks" LP - from every conceivable country, and every edition he could uncover. Anyway, he's been particular about maintaining items in their original condition - most he bought brand new at the time...(however this may mean that some he picked up second-hand weren't exactly mint to start with - those will be obvious by the gradings below). He'd been buying records I believe from about 1975/76 right up until recently. It's a truly wonderful collection; he'd not sold any of it previously so it was complete - some of the items are super rare and some are simply very nice copies of classic records - and I felt utterly privileged to be offered it first. Mostly though, YOU get to benefit from his meticulousness.

ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?:    Yes, it is...original orange labels with white 'Epic' logo and black text...the 'JE-' catalogue number prefix is another hint (the later blue Epic label version has a 'PE-' prefix...there was also a later 'ALK-' prefix)...and mostly, these first pressing cover variations:

1. 'THE CLASH' is written in solid bold lettering (later issues adopted the UK-issue style 'oriental' (and thinner) lettering 

2. the album title on the front is in a thin font which spreads out across the full width of the cover, between two thin black lines (later issues used the more cramped UK-style 'stencil' font, centred to the middle of the cover) 

3. the song titles on the back cover are listed in a different order to what appears on the label (and in the grooves!)

4. the song "All The Young Punks.." has been re-titled as "That's No Way To Spend Your Youth" on the back cover - on the label the song is listed under the correct original title

5. has no barcode on the back

The matrix details are:

CONDITION:

COVER: ( EX- )...has some scuffing on and near the spine and in the corners...with minor creases in the two right-hand corners (see pix - barely visible)...

RECORD: ( EX )...has virtually all of its original shine still...so close to mint...with just a few very light, very fine 'hair-line' marks only...looks beautiful and plays perfectly!...

LABELS: (Side One: MINT / Side Two: MINT )...has NO spindle marks on labels...looks as if it may never have been played...
