Description
This is an amazing set of albums distributed by Time-Life back in the 70's. Each album samples the Big Band Era's greatest hits, meticulously recreating the original arrangements sold on 78's in full high fidelity stereo. It includes such staples as "In the Mood" and "Opus One" as well as lesser known gems such as "Rhythm Is Our Business" and "No Name Jive". Each album contains three LP's and a hard bound book featuring an aspect of the Swing Era and pictorial bios of band leaders like Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Glenn Miller. The books also have a great discography of each song providing background on the composer, arranger, soloists, and interesting anecdotes. The first album begins in 1930 those following trace the rise of Swing and its evolution into the 50's. The final album is a collection of live performances of Benny Goodman, his Big Band and smaller groups recorded in the 60's and early 70's. Each set features around 30 songs.
The slip cases are in good condition with some wear from use and some fading on the open where light has struck them over the years. The LP's are in good condition but could probably be cleaned to reduce surface noise.
