Other Comments: If the Tequila Song sounds a little familiar, it's because you know it as a monster instrumental by the Champs on the Challenge record label. Here, this group has added words to the song! It's okay, though. The song's writer, Chuck Rio was also in this group! That's him playing the great sax solo sounding very much like the hit version in this recording. The B side, Dick Glasser's song Wildman, is not bad either, in fact that's the side that has appeared on more compilations! How was Chuck Rio (aka Danny Flores) able to perform in this group and with the Champs at the same time? Easy! Jackpot was a subsidiary label of Challenge, so they already had him under contract! The rest of the Contenders? They're rumored to be the rest of the members of the Champs, as well! The really amazing thing is that this record came out just as the Champs hit was leaving the charts, in 1958! I guess the label was trying to strike twice with the same record but was unable to repeat the success.
