Description

Just recently I bought a massive collection of 60's and 70's LPs...some are in surprisingly immaculate condition, and some are not, but the original owner (a well-respected Australian vinyl hoarder) was a fastidious collector of the styles he loved - 60's punk/garage, British invasion well-knowns [Beatles/Hollies/Dave Clark 5/Gerry & The Pacemakers/Zombies/Troggs/etc..], 70's West Coast sounds, pop-psych and he'd obviously forraged far and wide since there's a flurry of unique South American, New Zealand,Taiwanese, South African, Japanese releases amongst them all.

Here then, is one of the LPs from his collection:

ARTIST:     The DOORS  -
TITLE:        "STRANGE DAYS" .
FORMAT:     …vinyl LP…
LABEL:         ELEKTRA [manufactured & distributed by ASTOR]  .
CATALOGUE #:  EKS-74014  .
DATE OF RELEASE:  1967 .
PRESSED IN:    AUSTRALIA

ORIGINAL FIRST PRESSING?:    Yes, it is!...with matt flipback cover...black and gold 'stereo' sticker in bottom right corner...on gold Elektra labels...BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY: the text of all the track details on the labels are in NON-italic script (a very soon after second press had nearly all other details the same but all track detail script is in italics...see last two pix here for a look at that second pressing)...AND...the 'stereo' sticker is two-tone blue, and there's one on the front and another on the back

The most glaringly obvious difference between these two pressings, is the matrix numbers - this first pressing utilises a unique 'cut', with the matrix numbers as such: SIDE ONE:  EKS-74014-A  SIDE TWO:  EKS-74014-B

9The second pressing, with the italics labels, has the following matrix numbers: SIDE ONE:  EKS-74014-A3  SIDE TWO:  EKS-74014-B3   ... and is thus a completely different cut...same master, different cut.)

On the back cover, it has the original notation: 'PRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURERS OF ASTOR RADIOS, RADIOGRAMS, AND TELEVISION' along the bottom flap...with

'PRINTED IN AUSTRALIA by Radio Corporation Pty. Ltd.' in smaller print to the right of that...

=====================================================

CONDITION:

COVER: ( VG[+] )...has scuffing on all 4 edges and in all 4 corners, plus some visible ringwear...see pix...there's also a couple of small tears on the rear opening edge...with a small seam split at the top, and another small one on the spine...

RECORD: ( VG[+] )...has a lot of its original shine still...any marks are light ('hair-lines')...plays very well, but with some crackling, plus one skip each on the first two tracks (Side Two)...

LABELS: (Side One: M- / Side Two: M- )...VERY NICE!...

If you have any concerns about the accuracy of my gradings, please check my feedback for the odd nice comment from some satisfied folk out there.... (and hopefully you may be able to join their ranks).

Thanks for considering this item...Cheers, Jules.
