Description

An original 1st UK press of ESSENTIAL on VERVE. Matrix 1N/1N. 'Recording 1st pub' present on the labels. Stampers 1R/1G implying this copy is from the 1st couple of thousand copies ever to roll off the press. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original mono flipback cover. This original cover comes with a print error. Track 4 shows as 'Au Private'. We also have an original HMV inner too. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Wow, an absolute beaut of a copy which has only seen light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of slightest marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one slight deviation. I'd love to promise an Ex+ on all jazz records - but on a genuine '61 jazz title this sort of level is very unusual. Playback is just totally stunning. Obviously it helps that the LP is totally clean signalled. But add to this, if you will, that this is one of the 1st ever copies made and very close on to the original masters. And wow - you've really got some pretty amazing audio on your hands. A couple of crackles in a couple of isolated spots per side. A couple of slight ticks in a couple of spots during 'She Rote'. That is an excellent result - closing in on perfect - otherwise. 
Cover (Vg+) Not up to the standard of the vinyl - but more than acceptable. A clean and flat front without much sign of ageing - a crease top right. Slight nick at the opening - tape repaired internally [successfully]. The rear has avoided the worst of the ageing process. Slight grubbiness at the opening. Flipbacks are all intact and secure. Spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Emitex (Vg+) Bag present. Light ageing. No splits.
