We use the Record Collector's grading system giving separate condition ratings for the Vinyl and Sleeve as follows:
MINT As new condition, unplayed, often Sealed. We don't like using this gradeon records unless we are certain they have never been played, ie: were purchased as brand new items.
Near Mint (NM) - A nearly perfect record. Has more than likely been played few times or not at all. Sleeve will have no more than the most minor defects. The same is true of any other inserts, such as posters, lyric sleeves, etc.
Excellent (EX) - Excellent condition, no noticeable marks and like new. Records graded as EX are immaculate, fantastic examples of the record in question. No marks, scratches, warps, damage of any kind.
Very Good Plus (VG+) ? A Very Good Plus record will show some signs that it was played and handled by a previous owner who took good care of it. Any defects are of a cosmetic nature. Vinyl surfaces may show some signs of wear and may have slight scuffs. normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable
Very Good (VG) Very Good condition, normal wear, maybe a few very light marks. Perhaps not as shiny and new looking as a VG+ record.
Good (GD) - The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches.Sleeve suffers from folding, spine splits, discoloration, etc.
