Description
This is a SCARCE, first edition, first printing of "The Freedom Principle," an indispensable study of the pivotal figures and musical directions of avant guard, or post-bop, jazz. It was written by then Jazz Institute of Chicago director John Litweiler. The book was published by William Morrow & Co. in 1958, and the words "first edition" appear on the copyright page. Better still, although this is a standard bookstore edition, it was originally sent to a book reviewer directly by the publisher, and the original publisher's promotional material is included. The hardcover book itself is virtually perfect inside and out, with no indication that it was ever read. The dust jacket is present but has some shelf wear, including a couple of minor edge tears. All in all, it is in remarkable condition for such a scarce piece of music history covering the likes of Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Sun Ra and many other greats of the era. Thanks for your bid.
