Description
The G-Stringers
Original private pressing from 1969 on Syrinx Records, #S-1706.
The vinyl is near mint, nice and clean. The cover is near mint, still in it's original shrink wrap.
Not only does this private press LP on the Syrinx label have a fab psych cover art, they do a version of "White Rabbit" with a lotta charm! Folk based girls from Vassar College...other songs of the times include "Scarborough Fair/Canticle", "Codeine", "Get Together", "Eli's Comin'", "Delia", "Bells Of Rhymney", “Swing Low Sweet Chariot”... As far as I can gather, the G-stringers were sort of a revolving-door student folk-group active at Vassar college in the late fifties thru at least 1968 judging by the songs on this very obscure private-press LP. The whole album is of a very high-quality; I love ole gospel songs and it’s amazing how they have reharmonized the chord changes in the version "Swing Low...", taking a very familiar melody and moving it into a spooky psych-y direction...one of the best in the genre of private press girl college folk. Please see pictures for details
