The Homosexuals 1978 'Hearts in Exile' 7" with original lyric sheet
Rare opportunity to acquire this debut 7" single from legendary punk avant garde band The Homosexuals. This particular copy - new 'old stock' – was given to Julian Cope in 1979 by Paul Nicholls, then manager of mail order store Recommended Records, as Cope's copy had no lyric sheet. (Please note: this other copy was sold on this site just a few months ago.) This copy up for auction was then kept safe in a clear polythene bag, ensuring that the cover has suffered only minimal damage from the ages of storage. There is minimal ring wear on the back cover, but the item remains unbent and untorn, its gloss still quite undiminished. Similarly, the computer printout-style lyric sheet (see photo) is also clean and fresh looking.
Both sides of the disc have just been played. The A-side 'Hearts in Exile' displayed some unfortunate minor noise here-and-there, also a couple of pops, one on the fade out. The B-side 'Soft South Africans' is much cleaner, but unfortunately sticks half way through, thereafter recovering well for the insane guitar solo. All in all, however, a lovely item.
