The Kinks were a popular British Pop Rock act of the 1960s and early 1970s, though in the USA their biggest commercial success came in the late 1970s and early 1980s. The gritty, raw enthusiasm of their early songs, such as " You Really Got Me", has been cited as major influence on both Punk Music and Heavy Metal.
