Description
This is a excellent white label promo copy of the Kinks, Great Lost Kinks Album released in 1973 by Reprise Records. The package also includes promotional insert. This is very rare item with near mint stock copies have book value of $50.
The Great Lost Kinks Album is a 1973 LP of mostly unreleased material issued by Reprise Records after The Kinks had moved to RCA. The tracks were recorded between 1966 and 1970 and master tapes were shipped to the US Reprise Label in the early 1970s to fulfill contractual obligations with that label.
The name is a reference to an album that was set to be released by Reprise in 1969 but was held back, eventually morphing into The Village Green Preservation Society. So many rumours circulated about the unissued record that "great lost Kinks album" became a catch phrase
The songs include a number of unused album tracks, a British single ("Plastic Man"), a B-side ("I'm Not Like Everybody Else"), a film theme ("Till Death Do Us Part"), songs written exclusively for British television ("Where Did the Spring Go?", "When I Turn Out the Living Room Light"). The Great Lost Kinks Album also included several Dave Davies recordings intended for his ill-fated solo album ("Groovy Movies", "There Is No Life Without Love", "This Man He Weeps Tonight"). The liner notes for the album were written by John Mendelsohn.
As to grading, I grade very conservatively following Goldmine Record grading standard. Except that for records that are a notch below near mint, rather than VG ++, I prefer to use grade of Excellent. I do not use VG++ grade in addition to Excellent grade as is done by some.
The LP is in excellent condition with only a couple of short light inaudible marks visible on Side 1. The LP was tested through headphones after manual cleaning plays very quietly. As the LP was tested several weeks before listing it should, of course, be cleaned again before play. The cover is in excellent condition. The corners on all sides are very slightly worn. The top seam and bottom seams are strong with only minor rub wear/loss of color but no splits on either seam. The spine is relatively strong as well with the product information clearly readable.. The front and back of the cover show some ring wear There is also a piece of tape affixed at the mouth of the cover on the back of cover which cannot be removed without causing cover damage.
The LP is being sold without reserve and payment is expected within 3 days of auction close. Return of the LP will only be accepted if the same LP sold and shipped is returned in the same condition .Buyers that behave in a less than ethical manner will be reported and blocked from participation in future auctions. The LP will be separated from the cover when shipped to prevent seam splitting.
If you bid on and win more than one item shipping for multiple purchases will be adjusted. If you win more than one item do not pay until I have had the opportunity to issue new invoice to reflect combined lower shipping cost. Shipping for one item is $3.50 and includes tracking
