The Lyres - Don't Give It Up Now / How Do You Know

Original 1979 45 on Sounds Interesting records.

Here is the Legendary Boston Punk Band, The Lyres headed up by the famous, or infamous, Jeff Conolly, a.k.a. Momomann, Jeffy, Cheffy, Pokemonojeff and the list goes on.

Jeff sings lead vocals and plays Farfisa organ; this incarnation of the band also included Rick Carmel on Guitar, Rick Coraccio on Bass and Paul Murphy on Drums.

The Lyres along with the DMZ, the band that preceded them, and The Mighty Ions were my favorite Boston bands; I attended nearly ever gig they played in the Boston area.

Side A: "How Do You Know"

Side B: "Don't Give It Up Now"

I would have been given this 45 when it came out in 1979. The 45 has been wrapped and taped shut in a plastic sleeve for decades and so the sleeve and vinyl are in excellent condition; pretty amazing considering the 28 years I’ve moved from place to place with it.

I have very fond memories of watching this band play live and would never sell this copy if it weren't for the fact that I have another copy signed to me by Jeff.

If I have to give a grade to the vinyl I'd say maybe M-, but of course it's the actual sound that's important, right? It has no pops and very minimal crackle, if any, and it does Not skip. If it has any crackle at all it would be due to a tiny amounts of dust, as I believe I have never played this copy. I don't have the equipment to properly clean these records. The cover has a very tiny tear on top in the back and a few wrinkles.

The close up pictures shows, (in addition to DUST!), that vinyl is in great good shape. (I'll let you clean off the dust.)

I bought professional record mailers, a cost that I am absorbing, and will ship records outside of their covers. I do not charge any extra or hidden fees; the records will be sent Airmail so that they can be insured. A 45 in a professional mailer weighs about 5 ounces, give or take. Here is a link to the USPS web site where you can calculate the postage, use the drop down menu to select your country. http://ircalc.usps.gov/

If for some reason I mistakenly overcharge you for shipping I will refund you the difference, I am not trying to make money on shipping. Please wait for me to send you an invoice before paying.

Please see my other auctions for more RARE Psych, Prog, Punk, Weird - Strange and unusual Spoken Word records.

I will be listing a very Rare copy of the double 1976 Lp "Live At The Rat" featuring DMZ doing "Boy From Nowhere" and "Ball Me Out" and the Real Kids doing "Better Be Good", etc...

I'm currently listing A RARE 1970 Original Stooges Funhouse - Signed by Iggy Pop, among others scarce titles.

Check out my other items!

Good Luck!

On Jan-08-07 at 09:49:07 PST, seller added the following information:

Jeff informs me that he Never played a Farfisa, apparently it is/was a Vox.

I can fully appreciate why, after so many years of playing his heart out, this would be meaningful to him.

My bad, I'm sorry.

I hope I've got it right this time.
