Description
This is a sealed mint original stereo pressing of one and only album of The Merry Go Round, released by A&M Records in 1967. It is known to be a first pressing as one of two small cut out holes created over the label enables one to see the characteristic brown/tan label characteristic of the first label, as opposed to the distinctly different second silver label. This excellent LP features two of the most beautiful folk rock baroque style psych pieces released during the period both written by group leader, Emitt Rhodes, Live and You're A Very Lovely Woman.
The Merry Go Round were a Los Angeles based pop band, best known for the singer-songwriter Emitt Rhodes and featuring Joel Larson on drums, Gary Kato on lead guitar, and Bill Rinehart on bass. The band released only one album, The Merry-Go-Round (1967). "Live", the first single from their album, was a top 10 hit at both KHJ in Los Angeles and KGB in San Diego, although it failed to crack the top 50 on the national charts. Lovely Woman was their biggest hit, even though it may also have been limited to the Southern California area.
The Merry-Go-Round performed at the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival in 1967 on both days of the music festival. They closed the show on Saturday June 10 and were the second to the show closer on Sunday June 11. This music festival is important because it occurred before The Monterey Pop Festival but did not have a movie to document it for the ages.
"Live" was covered by The Bangles in on their 1984 album All Over the Place and "Time Will Show The Wiser" was recorded by Fairport Convention on their debut album in 1968, a song still played regularly by Fairport at their Cropredy Festival.
The LP is almost completely sealed although there is slight corner wear on the lower corners where shrink has ever so slightly opened. The top two corners are sharp .There is an area of missing shrink of about an inch near the lower part of the spine and there is slight loss of color in area on spine, but not diminishment of quality on the face of cover. The cover has two small cut out holes in area over the label but the holes do not penetrate the label.
The LP is being sold without reserve and payment is expected within 3 days of auction close. Return of the LP will only be accepted if the item is still sealed
