Description
These were in my Mum's collection, they are going to be difficult to describe as there is not much information.
First record is black vinyl with a label on it with a hand drawing of a cat and words "cat n dog records Side 1" Side 2 has a picture of a dog on it. The vinyl is excellent and the label on one side just has a little bit missing. The sleeve is just plain white and a bit creased. The album cover is just a white cardboard sleeve covered in cellophane with an A4 leaflet thing slipped into it. Side one has valerie, daydream believer, little bit me, little bit you, i wonder what she's doing tonight, steppin' stone, i wanna be free, pleasant valley sunday. Side Two has i love you, the blue plate special, I'm a believer, monkees theme, the three tears and she. There is no production details on this anywhere.
Second record is red vinyl with a white label which has faded. It does say something on it, but is too faded and seems to be written backwards. Again the sleeve is just an off white one with bends in it. The outter cover, is the same as before but the leaflet says... side one: shades of grey, sweet young thing, words, papa genes blues, monkees theme, Mr engineer. Side two: I'm going down, daydream believer, walking down the street, star collector, last train to clarksville, little bit me little bit you. It also says "All of the above recordings are studio outtakes, demos, or unreleased songs. This is a very limited edition release pressed on colored vinyl.
Third record is green vinyl with just a plain white label, which has "bubbled". Again the sleeve is just an off white one with bends in it. The outter cover, is the same as before but the leaflet reads: Side one: Christmas is my time of year, featuring the choice bits of dialogue taken from the television series. Side two is white christmas featuring additional dialog from the tv show. It also says "This is a very limited release, pressed on colored vinyl, this record captures a piece of history. Long live the Monkees.
Fourth record is clear vinyl with a plain white label. Again the sleeve and outter sleeve are the same. Leaflet reads: Side one, last train to clarksville, sweet young thing, mary mary, banjo song, guard the bull, i wanna be free, i got a woman, steppin stone. Side two. I wanna be rich and famous, Martha my dear, I want to do it with you, Papa genes blues, ca she do it like she dances and thats rock n roll. It also says Side one wa staken from the television documentary Monkees live in arizona, filed in March 1967. Side two was recorded ten years later in California at a Golden hits of the Monkees show. Limited edition on colored vinyl.
The last record is black vinyl and the label says The history and collected improvisations, 1962-1976. Again the sleeves are the same. Side one:Tha ambushers, where angels go, trouble follows, po box 9847, six and six, nashville, last train to clarksville, lets go where the action is, i'm gonna blow you a kiss in the wind. Side two: smilin, LUV, I thank you, crazy arms, i'm gonna blow you a kiss in the wind, I wanna be free, where angels go, lets go where the action is.
It also says 1981 S.G records Birmingham, England. Limited edition, this is number 83 of 300.
