The Monkees – Head - Colgems – COSO-5008 - 1ST PRESS MYLAR FOIL SLV 1968
These days, it is fondly remembered as one of the weirdest and best rock movies ever made, and a harbinger of the so-called New Hollywood. Quentin Tarantino and Edgar Wright are both fans. DJ Shadow and Saint Etienne have sampled its dialogue. According to director Bob Raefelson the Beatles and the Rolling Stones both requested private screenings, while Thomas Pynchon attended a screening disguised as a plumber. But to the fans who had made the Monkees household names, it might as well never have existed.
This disc contains songs and snippets of dialogue from the full-length feature film of the same name. Without question, both the movie and album are the most adventurous and in many ways most fulfilling undertaking to have been born of the Monkee's' multimedia manufactured project. The music featured on both the screen as well as this album is a long strange trip from the Farfisa-driven bubblegum anthem "I'm a Believer." Perhaps even more telling is that Head became the first Monkees long-player not to include a Boyce/Hart composition. As such, the talents of each member are uniquely showcased -- especially those of Peter Tork, whose contributions were previously too few and far between. Ironically, his acid rocker "Long Title: Do I Have to Do This All Over Again" and Eastern-flavored "Can You Dig It?" are not only among the best of the six original compositions on the soundtrack, but also among his finest Monkees offerings, period. Other notable tracks include Mickey Dolenz's vocals on two Carole King works: the ethereal "Porpoise Song," and the Toni Stern collaboration on the pastoral "As We Go Along."

THE HEAVYWEIGHT FOIL JACKET- IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION - IT SHOWS NO SPLITS OR PRICE NAME LABELS TO JACKET - NO NAMES - VERY LIGHT STORAGE WEAR NOTICEABLE NOTE: I USED A FILTER ON MY CAMERA TO SHOW THE JACKET IN DETAIL AND IT SEEMS TO HAVE REDUCED THE GLOW OF THE FOIL - THIS IS DEFINITELY THE FOIL JACKET!!!

Some incredible songs on this 1967 album from composer Reid King who married the Brazilian sound with
popular music of that era to produce an album that should have really taken off then, but due to the strange
setup of Canterbury Records who were in business to lose money for a Mattel tax shelter, the album was allowed
to die on the vine by Canterbury when it started to take off with airplay and sales. Reid King went on to become
one of the foremost composers of contemporary music for the gut-string guitar.
FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY.
Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft. These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound. Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.

Near Mint - Looks rarely played, very shiny with no visible marks
Excellent to Excellent Plus - A disc is super clean, with only very light visible marks that do not hamper play
Excellent minus is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing
VG+ AND VG++ - A Disc that is still in good shape, but will have some hairlines and minor superficial scratches with none deep that will not hamper play
VG A Disc that has minor scratches, some can be felt with a fingernail and can be heard as surface noise but nothing to spoil the overall enjoyment play
VG Minus - A record that has been well enjoyed, Still playable with minor imperfections such as light scratches, visible scuffing etc.
