The Moody Blues "Days Of Future Passed" Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs MFSL 1-042 Half Speed Mastered 1967
This is a copy of The Moody Blues "Days Of Future Passed" LP. This is a HALF SPEED MASTER from Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs
Back in the 80's, before CDs, most of the recordings in demand by "audiophiles" were Half Speed Masters. The attention to detail in the mastering process, the use of "virgin" vinyl as the medium (hold it up to the light and it is translucent) and elaborate packaging made these records the "state of the art" is audio reproduction. When played on a good turntable, you will hear a noticeable difference between these "audiophile" recordings and it's mass produced commercial LP counterpart. In fact, there are those who still to this day prefer the sound of the audiophile LP to the CD.
This particular LP is a Half Speed Master. During the mastering process, the"master" disc is cut at 16 rpm (half the speed of a normal 33 rpm record). Since the disc master is being cut at such a slow speed, there is more time for the needle to cut a "better" groove, containing more audio information.
This LP was purchased in the early 80's and I am the original owner. It has been played more than a few times but always played on a Denon DP-45F turntable with a high end Audio Technica Cartridge (most often the AT-155LC). Still, there is what looks to be a scratch in the inner groove of side 2. Also, there was a small sticker (1/4' x 1/2") removed from the label of side 1. I would rate the quality of the vinyl as a VG+. The outer jacket is in fantastic condition, with no splits. I would rate it as Near Mint. The LP itself is housed in an anti static inner sleeve which fits into the cardboard stiffener (folded out in the photo). This stiffener is then placed inside the outer jacket.
I will ship this LP to the winning bidder in a specially designed LP mailer. I will add a cardboard stiffener on each side of the LP as added protection against damage. I recommend shipping using USPS Priority Mail and I have added that to this auction as the shipping method.
You really have not heard this album until you've heard this version. MFSL did a great job on this LP (hence the repeated plays). Even when I taped it, the LP Still always sounded better. The dynamics are incredible! I actually like the LP over the latest remastered CD version.
Side 1 The Day Begins Dawn: Dawn Is A Feeling The Morning: Another Morning Lunch Break: Peak Hour
Side 2 The Afternoon: Forever Afternoon (Tuesday) (including incredible Mike Pinder Mellotron in the "evening time" section) Evening: The Sun Set: Twilight Time The Night: Nights In White Satin
