Description

Out of print 1996 press from, um, 'Crown' USA.  Please note, Mr Dale is not on this LP (it's just the title). A killer collection of course. ALL the artwork very much resembles a 1960's era cheapo comp even down to having no white paper inside sleeve.  The inexpensive B&W labels, both front and back covers, even the "Fazzio" forgery on the canvas painting, are true to the era of the Crown comps.

From the L.A. Record web site,

PHANTOM SURFERS: ROCK STARDOM FOR DUMB SH*TS

"You guys did a single years ago where the B-side was a phone prank on Dick Dale. Did he ever find out it was you guys?

Mike: Yes and no. We got a call from someone claiming to be his lawyer who was asking about that and about the fake Crown album, The Phantom Surfers and Dick Dale. But he was so confused about both the items that nothing ever came of it. Dick Dale was under the impression that he had recorded with us on that Dick Dale Crown album, but they were public domain tracks that have been used and reused time and again.

Mel: I actually have a video of him signing that LP with me, and he didn’t notice!"

Vinyl: Excellent/NM

Sleeve: NM - still has shrink wrap on it - not still sealed - I bought this new and played it once

Phantom Surfers w/ Dick Dale LP (Crown Records, 1996, CST 5358)

Mel Bergman writes: "Dick Dale IS on the Crown LP ... He recorded fairest of them all and we'll never hear the end of it in the late 50's ..."
Mel Bergman continues: "He hates those songs, as they are not surf music ... boy did he get p!ssed ..."
