Description
Classical music lovers beware!
This 70s band sounds as though its members have never played their instruments. The pieces they play are only just recognisable!
This was an unwanted Christmas present in the 1970s and the record is in mint condition as only part of one track has ever been played. It has been stored upright with other LPs away from the light. There are a few minor scuff marks on the outer sleeve. It is a performance by the Portsmouth Sinfonia at the Royal Albert Hall in 1974.
The following information appears on the back of the sleeve:
"All people who have a passion and spirit for music, especially playing music, would surely find difficulty in declining an offer to perform with an orchestra. Likewise each orchestra that seeks an audience would find it a hundred times more difficult to resist the delightful spell the Royal Albert Hall casts with its invitation.
This brief note of introduction welcomes you to a recording made on the 28th May 1974. It was a date that was destined to become firmly lodged in the Sinfonia's memory, for not only was the Sinfonia, with four new pieces in its repertoire, to be embraced by the father of halls, but for the first time ever a choir and piano concerto were to be included in the programme. The choir was to sing the Hallelujah chorus and was originally expected to consist of 100 singers; however on the day of the concert it was found to exceed 350. So vast an undertaking, together with the Sinfonia membership of an all time high of 82, caused certain communication confusions which were eventually solved by the services of a special choir conductor, Mr Michael Parsons, who approached this test of strength with a flawless classic quality.
The evening was to prove true to its promise. A blissful stirring was evident throughout. Only a few were to suffer musical indigestion and had to leave, but for those who stayed a whole feast of surprises lay in wait; Mr Michael Bond's impeccable announcements, an enchanting interpretation of Tchaikovsky by Miss Sally Binding, a truly moving 1812 Overture, a grand and magnificent choir."
