If you are a Rolling Stones collector or aficionado you will want one of these!
This is the rarest and most famous of Rolling Stones promotional albums. It is pictured and described in most books about Stones releases such as Giuliano’s ‘Not Fade Away’ (page 50) and Roy Carr’s book 'An Illustrated Record' (page 58).
Only 400 copies were pressed, 200 for the US market and 200 for the UK market. The UK issue had UK Decca label LP (cat number RSM-1) issued in a US sleeve (with cat number RSD-1) whilst US issue was issued on the blue London label with RSD-1 cat number on sleeve and label.Compiled by London in 1969 and distributed exclusively to radio stations one month prior to the release of Let It Bleed, it's a varied sample of tracks from their catalogue; not concentrating on hits, it includes more obscure album tracks. It apparently contains an alternate take of Love In Vain, available from no other source. In its unique picture sleeve.
SIDE 1 ZAL 9241-1
Both sides of the Vinyl play continuously without sticking or jumping but have plenty of visible and audible marks with the worst being on track 1 (Route 66). The worst of the audible scratches persists through track 2 (Walking The Dog) but thankfully becomes less noticeable in track 3 (Around and Around). Tracks 4-8 are free of persistent scratches but do have occasional clicks. Overall, side 1 is graded Good for the early tracks and Very Good from then on throughout side 1.
SIDE 2 ZAL 9206-A
This is the better side in terms of wear. There are surface marks and some clicking and, as for side I, the condition improves from the early tracks (Under My Thumb and Stupid Girl) to the later ones. Overall side 2 is graded Very Good with the most noise being on the quieter tracks such as Under My Thumb and Love In Vain.
Depending which sources you read the version of Love In Vain is apparently an alternate take unavailable from any other source though this has often been disputed.
The Let It Bleed recording sessions provide the front cover picture. It is a sepia toned picture of the band in the studio on a white background with band name at the top and 'A Special Radio Promotion Album In Limited Edition Not For Sale' text.
Due to the white background there is some light age discolouration visible to the front of the sleeve - though not excessive. See photos for sleeve condition: the front has a 3cm split between the stool legs but only one noticeable crease at the top left. There is a strip of what looks like surgical tape along the spine from top to bottom, which covers wear and tear.
”This album has been prepared for radio stations only by The Rolling Stones as a program aid. It was felt that most stations have in their library both volumes of The Rolling Stones Hits LP's (NPS-1 And NPS-3) and that one more LP, assembled especially for radio stations, could be of great help in programming. This LP, consisting of 14 Rolling Stones selections, spans the complete recorded history of The Rolling Stones beginning with one of their earliest recordings (Route 66) and ending with a brand new selection which will be included in The Rolling Stones' next LP (Love In Vain) [In fact it was to be Let It Bleed]
This LP, then, in combination with the other two hits LPs can provide radio stations of a comprehensive history of The Rolling Stones.”
