Description

The Rarest Aristocrat 78 Danny Knight Until Eternity Aristocrat 1501 (1949). The condition of this most rare Aristocrat 78 is excellent both with regard to visual condition and 78 rpm sound quality. The record was purchased by CandM Records neatly kept in a clear poly outer sleeve and a heavy paper 78 sleeve bearing a neat bates stamp style 3 digit catalogue number. The same 3 digit number was neatly affixed with high quality clear tape to the label. All of this leads us to the conclusion that this record was once part of a radio station's carefully kept collection. This 78 was one of a quantity purchased by us with the same sleeving and numbering arrangement. The B side of this 78 features " It Happened A Year Ago Today " by Danny Knight. Danny Knight is given writer's credit on both sides. The Aristocrat label was founded in April 1947 by Charles and Evelyn Arom, Fred and Mildred Blount, and Art Speigel in Chicago. The label's early releases included pop tunes, polkas, jazz including piano jazz trios, nightclub r & b, and c & w. In Sept. 1947 Leonard Chess purchased an interest in the Aristocrat label, and by 1948 he had secured a controlling interest in the company. Muddy Waters recorded for Aristocrat in Dec. 1947 and his first Aristocrat 78 was released in 1948. From this point forward, Aristocrat evolved into the Chicago Blues/r & b label that became Chess Records in June of 1950. Aristocrat 1501 contains 2 sophisticated urban blues ballad sides recorded by Danny Knight with the Red Saunders Orch. in Nov. 1947. The Aristocrat green label and black lettered trademark design indicate that 1501 was not released until March 1949 or later. In three short years, Aristocrat released only 92 records. To the best of our knowledge, information and belief, only one other copy of Aristocrat 1501 is presently known to exist. 1501 is obviously one of the rarest 78s in the world and probably THE rarest of the Aristocrat 78s. CandM Records is proud to list this most scarce record from this historic 20th century American record label. We have set what is believed to be a fair and sensible reserve, given the rarity and the fine condition of this 78 rpm record. We will continue to list the record until the reserve is reached and the record is sold. We will confer with the winning bidder with regard to shipping and insurance arrangements so that the security and protection of both the purchaser and the seller are maximized. Starting Bid with reserve set is 99 cents. Happy Bidding!
