Description
An original very 1st mono press of LIB on UK Decca from 1969. Matrix 1A/2A. Stampers 1-UI/1-BA. Note the labels exhibit an inverted tape number - these are the earliest copies to hit the market. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original cover with format peephole and printed by Upton. Be careful with the covers - many offered to market are later copies that have been switched. It absolutely MUST have a peephole on the rear to qualify for 1st issue. WE DO NOT have the original bespoke LIB inner. They were bespoke/specific for the LIB release. You can find them on-line relatively easily when you want to go for the complete package. In the mean time we are including a 1969 Decca red mono hexagonal inner. This is correct for the period - but would have actually been used for the hits LP DARKLY which was released a couple of months prior. We will ship in a poly lined Decca inner sleeve from the time.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) [S1/S2] In very nice condition and has only seen light to medium use. Under close inspection expect a couple of light marks per side - nothing troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a varying level of playback - as detailed. Side 1 is mostly NEAREXCELLENT with just a touch of light background in 'Love In Vain'. Nothing upfront at all - this track never plays perfectly clean anyway. Side 2 is more variable and nearer Vg+ by and large. I'll detail all tracks. You Can't Get - very nice...a few crackles right at the start of the intro - but otherwise really good. Monkey Man - really good. 'Got Silver' - does exhibit back ground crackle consistently [noticeable]. I couldn't grade this track higher than VG. Midnight Ramble plays ok, but with a bit of crackle more noticeable in the quieter moments - but nothing unpalatable really. In summary - a great little player. The only REAL compromise to be made is 'You Got The Silver'. Other than this is a highly sought after and very addictive player.
Cover (Vg+) Looking very nice and, remember, this is the real deal - proper 1969. The front is nice and shiny without wear or discolouration - just a couple of minor creases. The problem is nearly always found on the rear. But I'm pleased to report this copy is looking much better than what usually surfaces. Slight discolouration in a couple of spots - but by and large this cover has avoided the worst of the ageing process. A couple of small nicks just to the left of the cake. Expect a bit of edge wear and a couple of stress creases. A bit of wear at opening - but nothing unpleasant. The spine looks really nice with just slightest contortion at the top.
Inner (Vg+) Lightly aged. No splits. Bag present.
