Description
An original 'Let It Bleed' on UK Decca from 1969. Matrix 2A/2A. This is the boxed label variation which was only in use with mono for a short period late-69 through to early-70. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original cover with peep hole on the rear. Also included is a generic Decca inner from the early 70's. And there's no poster I'm afraid.
Vinyl (Vg/G) Ok, let's cut straight to the chase here. If you're someone who can't handle a lot of marks on a piece of vinyl this LP really isn't for you. If you're someone that might be interested in bagging a '69 mono at a knock down price and is prepared to accept this then keep reading. The surfaces have numerous marks, which is in itself not a major problem as these pressings were built to with stand this. The thing to be particularly aware of is that there are two marks which are feelable/deep and they are long and circular in nature [this is the worst sort]. So, again only read on if you are prepared to take this on the chin...A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly VERY GOOD level of playback. So, expect a few crackles here and there, but by and large playback is very nice true mono. In fact, pretty good and a testament to how solid 60's pressing were. BUT those two marks mentioned above do cause issue. 1) The one in 'Let It Bleed' causes a couple of seconds of muffled/muted sound. 2) The second is more significant in 'Midnight Rambler'. It causes four/five brief patches of interference [audible as a loud 'whooshing' sound] in the mid-section. I don't believe at any point there's a full skip as far as I can tell. So, once again only go ahead and purchase in the full knowledge of these issues. This still represents a very cheap route to get a true mono copy which are normally found at astronomical prices.
Cover (Vg+) In great shape and better than many examples that surface. Nice shiny front without laminate lift or creasing. The rear looks in nice shape too with just some staining down in the bottom right corner. Edge wear is mostly light and the spine is pretty much intact. There's a 1 inch split to the bottom seam. Overall the cover retains great rigidity and lies totally flat.
