As Awesome Album Covers go, the Rolling Stones catalog has a fair amount of them. From 1978, we take a look at Some Girls, which was released with a different cover than was originally planned.
Designed by Peter Corriston, who also did Led Zeppelin’s Physical Grafitti as well as the Stones’ Emotional Rescue and TattooYou, the title of Some Girls was originally supposed to be More Fast Numbers.
Along with changing the album name, the band was also forced to change the original cover design. The first version was to include the faces of such celebs as Raquel Welch and Farrah Fawcett in the same cut out spaces as contained the garishly made up pictures of the Stones.
But, having failed to clear any of the images, the band decided to pull all thei mages, substituting instead blank spaces and scrawled statements like “UnderConstruction.”
Two other versions — one with hand drawn pictures and another with photos of, among others, Jimmy Carter and Carly Simon — have never been released.
