Description
An original 1st press of TSMR on the USA London label from 1967. Matrix 1S/1S. Etching 'Bellsound'. The label design is consistent with an early stereo 1st press and is, what I would call, a very 1st 'Initial stab at the design'. Firstly, you will notice that the artist/band is mentioned, but it is almost completely hidden amongst the text. This is one very poorly laid out label and on later copies the formatting is far far better. They would also go on to show 'ROLLING STONES' in big bold lettering - absolutely crucial when you think about it! In addition, on this early design, they haven't even numbered the tracks..now that really is daft. Also, there's no mention at the label's perimeter of the 'unauthorised copying' warning which came in to force during '67. So, most certainly this is a very early 1st iteration label. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original 1st issue lenticular stereo cover. Also included is the original red bespoke inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-) In great condition and has only seen relatively light use. Do expect a few light marks per side - nothing heavy or troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. A very nice player with little to complain at. The original Bellsound copies sound sweet - I like! Any interference is both minor and infrequent. All I could detect were a few crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. And then the only deviation is a few clicks at the start of Gomper. Other than that expect a very solid rendition of this much underrated psyche STONES classic...
Cover (Vg+) In great shape and looks better than many original copies that surface. The lenticular looks really smart - impressive. By this point in time many have dulled, or cracked, or detached. But this example is absolutely bang-on in all respects. Back and front are in very nice condition with only light signs of handling - and on the front a name written in the extreme top right. The interior looks superb with few signs of wear - note there's the remnants of a signature in the maze. There's a fair bit of edge wear in places - a three inch section at the top right edge of the back panel it has warn through - tape repaired internally. It also looks like the bottom edge of the right panel has tape securing it too. There's a bit of wear on the spine - but not bad at all. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg) In nice condition, but the bottom has split and been tape repaired.
