Description
This is a rare 2 record set featuring the Royal Ballet called GALA PERFORMANCES. The entire set looks to be in excellent condition. Each side is in NM+/NM++ condition, side 3 has a pressing mark but is NOT audible. We had the pleasure of listening to the records at the home of a collector and were impressed by the stereo effects, the dynamics and the perfection of the absolute control of tempo and balance within the orchestra. There are no skips. The recording exemplifies an era past, full of grace and beauty.
The orchestra is The Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent garden, under the direction of Ernest Ansermet. It says on the label that it is recorded in England, "Stereo-Orthophonic" High fidelity, His Master's Voice. This is not the re-issue from Classic records, this is one of the beautiful albums from the Soria Series Collection.
It includes a beautiful 23 page book with color pictures, printed in Italy by Amilcare Pizzi, for the Soria series of the RCA Victor record division, Radio Corporation of America and is also in excellent condition There is another separate sheet, like a program listing in very good condition.
The 2 records, book and program listing are housed in a gorgeous linen box which is in terrific condition. There are a few tiny age spots as would be expected. The records fit into a case on which there is a black wooden spine which appears to be covered in black leather. The lettering on the spine is all in gold and looks fabulous. This piece locks down into the linen case.
