Totally deleted elsewhere exact limited reissue of 300 from 1985 !!!
Despite the year this LP could have come from '65-'66. One of those mega-rare
releases that serious collectors will kill for, it fits into the 'prep-rock' niche, though
this is not yet another Phillips Academy outfit but a five-piece from the campus of
Notre Dame University, South Bend, Indiana. The liner notes tell us that it was
recorded on March 14th, 1967 at the International Recording Studio in one 20 hour
session. "Engineers Perry Johnson and Verner Ruualds amazed. Probably recording
history". 'Fraid not chaps but a nice try!! 10 predictable covers and two originals in a
soft melodic folk-rock style - no fuzz 'n' farfisa ravers here - though they do get more
frantic on My Generation and Let's Spend The Night Together.
Probably successful businessmen, professionals or brain surgeons now(*), the quintet
may curl up with embarrassment when reminded of this platter but they'll surely scour
the attic for lost copies when they hear what collectors will pay for an original! And,
with this entry, they've a place in history too.
NB: (*) Geoff Gillette is thought to subsequently have a had a career as a producer/recording engineer.
This limited reissue is getting megarare as well as it was pressed at only 300 copies...
