THE SPECTRUM

The Light Is Dark Enough

RCA International INTS 1118 (1970)

Formed in 1967 The Spectrum were one of a number of British bands who found more success on the Continent than in the UK. Here their best known song was Portobello Road, a song about London's then fashionable street market, which surprisingly failed to chart despite considerable airplay on pirate radio. In Spain, meanwhile, they enjoyed a No 1 with Headin' For A Heatwave and their cover of Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da made No 19 in Germany. By the time of its release Peter Wood had replaced Bill Chambers on organ. Later in the Summer of 1969, when Tony Judd left, Tony Atkins switched to bass guitar with Colin Forsey taking up rhythm guitar. Most of their better songs appear on their album, which is essentially a 'best of' and is now hard to track down and collectable. They also recorded tracks for two films and played a small screen role.

The group was also featured in the closing credits of the Gerry Anderson-produced series Captain Scarlet & the Mysterons, singing the title song, but this exposure failed to get them any significant sales and the song was never issued commercially -- ironically enough, their presence on the title theme even gave the group a bit of exposure in America (where the series was popular and ran for years in reruns, and where their singles had never been released), of which they were never able to take advantage.

The vinyl is in excellent conditiom, with just a few light surface marks.

The sleeve is in very good condition, with just a few creases & some ring wear.

This is NOT the same copy I sold a few weeks ago.
