ULTRA RARE PUNK ALBUM

Very nice condition and hugely sought-after 1979 Island LP by The Slits. One of the early movers and shakers on the punk scene, they were relatively late to record. Released in 1979, this dub-influenced album was produced by reggae producer Dennis Bovell.

The sleeve was mired in controversy when it was released, with the cover art featuring the female band members in nude, mud-covered poses.

The UK Island copies came with two label-variants. One version had silhouetted figures of the band on the label alongside the Island logo and the other version had no silhouettes.

I have never seen or heard of a copy like this one, whish appears to be a hybrid of the two!!

Side 1 has the silhouettes and side two does not!

How many other similar copies are out there, I have no idea. Given how rare this album is anyway, there can't be too many.

Vinyl: VG+ Very nice condition for its age. There are some superficial hairline surface marks, but it still retains a nice deep lustre and sheen. Play tested, and although there's some very minor and only occasional crackle and hiss on the run-in and dead wax between tracks, nothing at all affects the play on the audio tracks. Labels are unusually configured - light blue on the A-side and much darker on the B-side. Both labels contain the small Island sun/palm tree logo, BUT ONLY THE A-SIDE CONTAINS THE BAND SILHOUETTES. The words "Ping Pong" on B-side track 2, are inverted. Labels are clean and free from scuffs, stains and blemishes with some signs of spindle-wear.

Sleeve: VG++ Super condition sleeve. Fully laminated card sleeve, infamous nude photo cover against purple background on front cover, and colour foliage photo against red background on rear cover. Rear cover also features track listing, (with the inverted "Ping Pong" text) The sleeve is structurally intact with no splits or tears. There are some minor edge creases in the laminate finish. All the seams are securely gummed down. The inner sleeve is present and entirely intact - stiff card semi-gloss finish with cartoon line-drawn designs on both sides. Fantastic condition which is so rare to find.

A great example of a genuinely rare and sought-after collector's item (With unusual hybrid labels!)
