Description
An original 1st issue from 1968 on Immediate records. Matrix 2/2. Stampers 1-GG/1-GD [1st mother on this matrix]. Note that the very earliest copies will have been available early Summer 1968. Copies like this one will originate from Autumn 1968 whilst the album was working its way out of the charts in the UK. This label variation was very much in existence in 1968. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gimmick 5 panel cover printed by "Garrod & Lofthouse & Made in England". Please note that reissues from the 70's mention 'Garrodprint'. We will ship the LP in a Decca poly-lined inner sleeve for maximum protection.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In superb condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a varying level of playback...read on...Side 1 is straightforward - it plays mostly EXCELLENT. I'm detecting a couple of crackles in the odd spot, but by and large it plays clean and powerful. There's one solitary click in 'Rene'. But I'm liking it very much. Side 2 - is slightly more complicated by those spoken word passages. I would say spoken word passages rate at VERYGOOD+ as I'm detecting a few static crackles here and there. Nothing invasive - it's just that these sections just won't play as clean as the music offered on this LP. In terms of the actual music on side 2 I'd say it's up around the NEAR EXCELLENT level. Nearly at the level of Side 1, but just a few crackles noticeable in a couple of moments. By and large I'd say that, in terms of the music audio, the playback level really is very nice indeed. Not perfect, but impressive and certainly more than good enough to fully appreciate this psyche masterpiece.
Cover (Ex/Ex+) Well, this cover is really quite something. Given it's 50 years+ life span, and fantastic condition, one could be forgiven for assuming that it was printed last week! First thing to note is that there's pretty much no ageing at all. I would imagine that is VERY unusual. Also, there's no dulling or fading to the print - it looks pristine. Surfaces are lovely and smooth without creasing or wear. Really very impressive. All panels are looking exactly the same standard - nigh on perfect. And IMPORTANTLY those joining hinges are all intact. No tearing or splitting at all. The whole 5 panels are still perfectly intact and together. Very little edge wear at all either. A specimen this well preserved would be quite a hard find I'd imagine...
