Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 5 Solid-Centre Pressing UK 7'' Singles - 1985-1987

Catalogue nos. RT 191 - RT 198 - Rough Trade Records

This auction is for five different Rough Trade 'solid-centre' pressings of Smiths singles, which represent the rarer alternative form to the commonly-seen four-pronged 'push-out' centres which Morrissey specified that the record company should produce. It is speculated that these alternate pressings were produced after the 'pronged-centre' versions, but were nonetheless official Rough Trade pressings, and were made in apparently very limited numbers. The labels on these records are identical in every way to the UK pressings, except that the 'solid-centre' format replaces the 'push-out' centre format; there are no anti-slip serrations or other differences which may indicate that these were pressings for export to Sweden or Ireland and, as such, are alternate UK versions which are believed to be even rarer than those intended for export. It is not clear how these made it into the market, or how many were produced, but there appear to be relatively very few judging by the scarcity with which they appear. In at least one case, it is known that these 'solid-centre' versions were labelled as 'rejects' by the record company. This auction is for 'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side', 'Panic', 'Shoplifters Of The World Unite', 'Sheila Take A Bow' and 'I Started Something I Couldn't Finish'. These later singles are undoubtedly harder to find in this 'solid-centre' format than most of the earlier singles, one possible reason being that the popularity of The Smiths singles had increased significantly by this stage and many more of the initial intended 'push-out' centre pressings were produced in anticipation of higher demand. While some of these records are rarer than others, they are all appearing less and less often for sale at reasonable prices; several of these records are already being offered for extremely high prices by vendors, and it seems certain that their value will continue to grow as they become more widely known about and thereby sought by collectors. This is a very rare opportunity to obtain these five rare pressings in exceptional condition (see below) in one auction, before they become impossibly rare and difficult to find; the postage costs will also, of course, be considerably cheaper than buying them individually and having them sent separately.

The vinyl and labels for 'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side' are in near mint condition, with barely any discernable surface marks at all on the highly-glossy vinyl; the record has clearly been played only once or twice and has been extremely well looked-after. The sleeve is similarly in near mint condition, with barely any signs of wear. In the case of 'Panic', the vinyl and labels are again in near mint condition with just some very fine 'hairline' surface marks visible on the highly-glossy vinyl if held to the light; the record is quite possibly unplayed. The sleeve is also in near mint condition, with only the lightest of 'corner wear' in a few places. The vinyl and labels for 'Shoplifters Of The World Unite' are again in near mint condition, with only superficial surface marks on the glossy vinyl in a few places; the record again appears unplayed. The sleeve is also in near mint condition, with practically no signs of wear at all. In the case of 'Sheila Take A Bow', the vinyl and labels are once more in near mint condition, with only very fine 'hairline' surface marks on the highly-glossy vinyl in a few places; the record has clearly been played but has been extremely well looked-after. The sleeve is also in near mint condition, with barely any signs of wear or handling. The vinyl and labels for 'I Started Something I Couldn't Finish' are similarly in near mint condition, with no discernable surface marks on the highly-glossy vinyl; the record appears to be unplayed. The sleeve is also in near mint condition, with no apparent signs of wear. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the items themselves.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 3.00 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
