Description
Here's a legitimately scarce piece for the Smiths collector — the 1986 German Teldec limited edition pressing of "Ask" on clear vinyl (catalogue number 16.20502), featuring three tracks: "Ask" on the A-side, with "Cemetry Gates" and "Golden Lights" on the B-side. The picture sleeve features Colin Campbell in a still from the 1960s film "The Leather Boys," with the "Top Hit England" banner printed in the upper right corner — a distinctive look that sets this German pressing apart from the standard UK release.
This copy is still sealed in its original shrink wrap — the record has never been opened or played. In the interest of full disclosure, the shrink shows the wrinkling you'd expect from nearly 40 years of storage and is beginning to come away at one corner, both of which are visible in the photos. It still bears its original Pepperland Records price sticker — a beloved Bay Area record shop that many of us have fond memories of — along with a handwritten "Limited rareclear wax" notation added by a Pepperland staffer at the time of purchase. That's the kind of provenance that doesn't come along every day. As of this listing, this appears to be the only sealed copy available from a U.S. seller.
Once upon a time I was a late-'80s alternative kid who bought all of this new. Apparently aging is real, and now we're here doing Swedish Death Cleaning. LOL
