Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive,  you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - The First Eight UK 12" Single Releases: 1983 - 1985

This auction is for the first eight of the original UK Rough Trade Smiths 12" vinyl single releases, not counting sleeve variations or  the remix version of 'This Charming Man'. These 12" singles are becoming rarer and rarer as time goes by, and it is  getting very difficult to find examples in terrific condition, such as these are, that you would want in your own collection;  these 12" singles have been extremely well looked-after with the records having been stored outside of the sleeves in most cases.  Some of these are harder to obtain than others, and as such have risen more in value relative to the rest; none of these 12" singles have been re-issued by Rhino or otherwise. All of these 12" singles are in their original picture sleeves with their original inner  sleeves, and is not an excuse to sell sub-standard condition 12"s by virtue of the fact that they are sold as a collection. All of these  12" singles, even after 30 years in some cases, are all in superb collectable condition; all of the records being in near mint  condition and the sleeves being in at least strong excellent condition (full details below). There is no writing on any of the  sleeves and there are no scratches on the vinyl. Don't miss this opportunity to get hold of such a superb collection before  they become unobtainably rare, with the cost of postage being much lower than buying and shipping these individually or in small groups.

The condition in detail is as follows:

'This Charming Man' (Cat: RTT 136): The vinyl is in near mint condition with next-to-no superficial 'hairline' surface marks  at all on the highly-glossy vinyl; it appears to have been played once or twice at most. The original plain white inner sleeve is present and intact.  The outer picture sleeve is also in near mint condition, retaining its original smooth finish and having sharp edges and corners with no  seam-splitting, creases or 'ringwear'. There is just some extremely mild corner and edge wear in a couple of places.

'What Difference (Terence Stamp Sleeve)' (Cat: RTT 146): The vinyl is again in near mint condition, having barely any   'hairline' surface marks on the vinyl and showing next to no signs of having been played. The record is as-issued in its intact plain white inner sleeve.  The outer picture sleeve is also in near mint condition with just some mild corner wear in a few places, but no significant creases and having sharp edges with no splitting.

'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' (Cat: RTT 156): The vinyl is once more in near mint condition, being glossy with barely  even any 'hairline' surface marks. The record has been played once or twice, if at all, and is in its intact plain white inner sleeve as issued. The  outer picture sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with just some very mild edge wear in one place but no seam-splitting or significant  creasing anywhere.

'William It Was Really Nothing' (Cat: RTT 166): The vinyl is in near mint condition, being very glossy and having been  played very little while being extremely well looked-after; there are just the lightest of 'hairline' superficial surface marks in a few places. It has its  intact white inner sleeve as issued. The outer picture sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with sharp edges and barely even any corner  wear. There are no significant creases or 'ringwear' at all and no seam-splitting anywhere.

'How Soon Is Now' (Cat: RTT 176): The vinyl is in near mint condition, being very glossy and having barely even any 'hairline'  surface marks; it appears to be unplayed. This is as-issued in its intact white inner sleeve. The outer picture sleeve is in strong excellent  condition, with just some mild 'edge wear' in a few places and the beginnings of a small split, which hasn't broken through the surface, in the centre of the  upper edge. The sleeve is flat and has an impressive 'glossy' appearance with no significant creasing anywhere.

'Shakespeare's Sister' (Cat: RTT 181): The vinyl is in near mint condition, being very glossy and appearing unplayed with just a  few of the lightest 'hairline' surface marks in places. The original glossy 'picture' inner sleeve is also in near mint condition. The outer picture  sleeve is in near mint condition, remaining glossy in appearance with sharp edges and no seam-splitting. There is just some minor edge wear  towards one of the corners but no 'ringwear' or creasing anywhere.

'That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore' (Cat: RTT 186): The vinyl is in near mint condition, appearing to be unplayed and displaying  practically no 'hairline' superficial surface marks at all. The 'pink'-coloured inner sleeve is similarly well-preserved with no marks or splits. The picture  outer sleeve is in at least strong excellent condition, with sharp edges and only some mild edge wear towards one of the corners. There is no significant creasing and no discernable 'ring wear'.

'The Boy With The Thorn In His Side' (Cat: RTT 191): The vinyl is in near mint condition, with just very minor 'hairline' surface  marks visible in a few places if the record is held to the light. The record appears to have been played very little, and has been extremely well looked-after.  The 'orange'-coloured inner sleeve has no splits or marks anywhere. The outer picture sleeve is in at least strong excellent condition, with sharp  edges and only some minor edge wear towards one of the corners. The sleeve is glossy and there are no creases. There is just a tiny beginning of a split in the upper edge, which is no more than a few millimetres across and has not broken through.

The new owner is certain to be very happy with these Smiths releases on now-increasingly-rare original vinyl pressings.

Please see the accompanying photos; note that the Ebay ID lettering is just on the pictures and not on the records themselves.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 7.00 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers but still subsidised and very good value, particularly when compared with the cost of having these sent individually or in small groups; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
