Description
The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.
The Smiths - 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' Withdrawn Version 12'' - 1984
Catalogue No. RTT 156 - Rough Trade Records
It has now become fairly widely-known that there are, in fact, two versions of the quintessential Smiths single 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' which made it onto the shelves in the 12" format in 1984. The vast majority of the Original 1984 12" singles in existence carry the regular 3:34 version of the title track, which is also the same as the 7" version. A few of the very first pressing copies, however, made it into circulation, and these have a different version of 'Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now' which is, in fact, 3:46 in duration. This version has an additional vocal section right at the end of the track before the guitar 'outro', which accounts for the extra 12 seconds. At first glance, the two types of 12" appear identical; even the label for this withdrawn version indicates, incorrectly, that the title track lasts for 3:34 as it does on all later copies. Upon closer inspection, the tiny differences in the groove patterns on the A-side can be seen compared with the standard 12" which reveal that, indeed, the pressing of the track is different. In addition, there is a small difference in the outer sleeve in that the credits at the foot of the back of the sleeve state "recorded at Matrix (London) Feb 1984" which was replaced in later sleeves by the credit "recorded at Island & Powerplant Studios (London March 1984)"; although there must have been a surplus of the earlier sleeves since these were also sometimes used to house the later standard 12"s with the 3:34 version of the title track (with thanks to Mark Thompson, Smiths expert, for this information). The release of this early different mix of 'Heaven Knows' into the shops in very limited quantities appears to have only recently become well-known amongst collectors, and it has now become a sought-after item. This is a rare opportunity to obtain one of these 12"s in collectable condition. The vinyl and labels are in strong excellent condition, with just a few superficial surface marks and some very light 'hairline' surface marks in a few places. The white inner sleeve is the original, with its "Made in Great Britain" and patent stamp, and the outer sleeve with the earlier credit is also in strong excellent condition, with no splits or tears and no significant creases. There is just some minor corner wear in a few places; all edges are sharp and unworn. A very nice item which is both rare and highly sought-after as a genuinely collectable item. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 2.50 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
