The Smiths - 'Louder Than Bombs' UK Double LP - 1988

'Louder Than Bombs' is not an easy album to find in this double vinyl LP format, but if you have a copy it is overwhelmingly likely to be the US-release on the 'Sire' label. This is because the 'Louder Than Bombs' LP was not originally intended for a UK release, but was instead seen as a US counterpart to the UK's 'The World Won't Listen' compliation album. Although there is some overlap, the more extensive and varied track listing found on 'Louder Than Bombs' compared with 'The World Won't Listen' made it a popular import in the UK and Rough Trade decided to give it an official UK release a year after its 1987 release in the US. It received, however, only a limited pressing on vinyl with the catalogue number 'Rough 255'. The orange gatefold sleeve is a slightly lighter orange tint compared with the US vinyl release, and the brown inner sleeves are a slightly different shade of brown with white lettering announcing the 'Rough 255' catalogue number rather than the copyright information on the US inner sleeves. The record labels also, as might be expected, differ from their Sire equivalents. This has become a very nice Smiths collectable, and this copy is in superb condition (see below).The vinyl and labels are in near mint condition, having been played just once or twice and having next to no surface marks on the glossy vinyl. The thin and easily-damaged brown paper inner sleeves are also in near mint condition, with no damage, splits or tears. The outer orange gatefold sleeve is in strong excellent condition, with just some very minor corner wear. There are no other significant signs of wear or creases, and just one small region where the surface shine has come away by the removal of a sticker which is only visible if the sleeve is held to the light. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail; note that the yellow 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.
