Description

The Smiths :  S/T (Self-Titled)    LP

Original US pressing (1984) on the Rough Trade label (copyrighted with Sire).

Rough Trade / Sire 9 25065-1

The Smiths' critically acclaimed debut album, featuring Morrissey on vocals and Johnny Marr on guitar and harmonica.  Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce comprise the rhythm section.

Often cited as Morrissey's masterpiece, he wrote all the lyrics and sings all the songs.

The jacket cover features a photo of Joe Dallesandro starring in Andy Warhol's 1968 cult classic art film "Flesh".  Note that "Flesh" was directed by Paul Morrissey.

Matrix numbers in the dead wax read:

Side 1:  1  25065  A  SH1    B-18999-SH1    SLM (triangle symbol) 6138    1-1

Side 2:  1  25065  B  SH2    B-19000-SH2    SLM (triangle symbol) 6138-X    1-1

Vinyl:  EX  (downgraded from NM due to cosmetic flaws ... see below)

Superb sound quality on this well recorded album.

The wax plays just a wee bit shy of "like new", with only traces of surface noise audible between a few tracks ... but not during songs.

High gloss remains.

Some superficial paper scuffs / hairlines are visible under bright light but have no discernible impact on sound quality.  Two scuffs on Side 1 are clearly detected by eye (see close-up photo) but not by ear; they do not impact the listening experience.  (I believe these two cosmetically objectionable scuffs are manufacturing defects, i.e. record pressing plant caused.)  In summary, the flaws on the wax are solely cosmetic.  The sonics are superb throughout.

Labels are essentially flawless, look like new.

My Profile / Policies:

Note:  I've qualified for the "Top Rated Plus" seal from eBay, awarded to sellers who consistently deliver outstanding customer service.

Music is my passion.  I’ve been a collector for more than 50 years and have thousands of records in my personal collection, focused largely on 50’s and 60’s rock ‘n’ roll.  Recently retired, I look to downsize and sell select portions of my collection in hopes of financing future purchases of a few special pieces.

All records I offer are from my personal collection, each cleaned using my Nitty Gritty Record Cleaning Machine.

Wax is play graded (not just visually graded), employing Goldmine Price Guide standards.

As I take great care to accurately describe my items, I do not accept returns unless my item description is incorrect.

All records are packaged with the wax outside the jacket (to avoid seam split in transit), enclosed in a plastic sleeve and shipped in robust record mailer boxes via USPS Media Mail, tracking included.

International customers pay shipping costs and duties per the eBay Global Shipping Program guidelines.

Payment expected within 3 business days of auction closing.
