Description

The experience of buying records on Ebay is ruined if, when they arrive, you discover that they are either not in the condition stated or have been damaged in the post! For this reason I describe all my items in detail, and only post using strong sturdy packaging in a 'box' mailer with the record outside the sleeve to avoid seam-splitting. They are also from a non-smoking and pet-free home.
I accept returns and offer a full refund if you are not happy with your purchase.

The Smiths - 'Panic' German Clear Blue Vinyl 12" - 1986

Catalogue no. 16.20503 - Teldec/Zensor

As is the case for all of the original coloured vinyl 1980s German releases, this pressing of the classic Smiths single 'Panic' has become highly collectable owing to its ever-increasing scarcity as copies in good condition are bought up by collectors. This release appeared on particularly striking clear blue vinyl (see photos) and, interestingly, has a different track-listing to the UK release, with 'There Is A Light That Never Goes Out' (slightly incorrectly titled) and 'The Queen Is Dead' on the B-side. The sleeve artwork is the classic Richard Bradford 'Man In A Suitcase' cover, but printed in an altogether lighter background shade which makes the light blue "SMITHS" lettering stand out differently and which appears to be the original composition of the photograph which was used for the sleeve since the crudely cut-out appearance of Richard Bradford's face, which appears on other releases, is not present; this 'cut-out' effect on all other releases no doubt being the result of printing the photograph more darkly and then overlaying the image to produce the darker background. Also unique to this pressing is the curious message "HANG THEM HIGH MONIKA" which is etched into the run-out groove instead of "I DREAMT ABOUT STEW LAST NIGHT" which appears on the UK pressings. All in all this is a very nice original Smiths collectable, which has remained in surprisingly unworn condition since the 1980s (see below).

The record and labels are in strong excellent condition, having been played a few times but extremely well looked after; there are just some light surface marks on the bright blue vinyl in a few places which can only be seen if held to the light. The outer sleeve is also in strong excellent condition, having no creases or significant signs of wear other than some mild corner 'rubbing' in a few places. The record was released without an inner sleeve and so the record has long been stored outside of the thin cardboard sleeve in order to avoid damaging it. As a result, there is minimal 'ringwear' (only a very faint impression is visible) and there is no seam-splitting anywhere. Please see the accompanying photos for more detail showing the actual record and sleeve for sale; note that the 'Ebay ID' lettering is just on the pictures and not on the item itself.

All my auctions start at 1P and have NO RESERVE. They are all 100% genuine, original versions. Some are in mint/new condition and some are used; all will go to the highest bidder. I offer a money-back guarantee if anything is described incorrectly. Postage and Packing is 3.20 in the UK for untracked and uninsured standard postage, this is subsidised by myself and the actual costs to me will usually be higher. Please do consider paying the extra 70p for tracked postage since there is nothing that can be done to find out what happened if the parcel is lost when standard postage is chosen. Shipping costs are greater for overseas buyers, but still subsidised and very good value; please check prices by using the options above or feel free to ask. Extra items are sent at no extra postage charge to the buyer (see below). I always take great care to package items well with strong mailing materials.

See my other auctions for related rare items here. If multiple auctions are won at the same time (within a week), I will charge only the postage cost for the heaviest item and pay the remainder myself. This is the case wherever you live. If you are planning to bid, but cannot be around at the end of the auction, I have found this free site to be useful; note that I am not affiliated with the site in any way!
